A special congratulations to the Secondary 3 GEP debating team of Gayle Goh, Lin Yi Han, Tong Lap Him and Yu Kang Hao for their enormous effort in the inaugural Moot Parliament Competition on Tuesday (17/06/2003).

ABOVE: Kang Hao and Yi Han receive their plaques from the Principal.

They were the opposition in a political debate on euthanasia with a team from Chinese High acting as the proposition. While no winner was announced, our Dunman High team were deemed the better team in the eyes of those gathered.

Their efforts were officially recognised when they were bestowed the title of Best Opposition Team ahead of all other GEP teams from RI, RGS, CHS, Nanyang Girls, Victoria School and ACS (I) on Wednesday (18/06/2003).

What is more, their opponents were awarded Best Proposition Team which further underlines their achivement. This further underlines the scale of their accomplishement! Well done, I am proud of all of you.

Below is a report written by team member Gayle Goh.

MOOT VICTORY

FROM LEFT: Lap Him, Kang Hao, Yi Han and Gayle

So after weeks of preparation, confusion and quandary, the Big Day was finally here. We the Dunmanians lugged ourselves to City Hall MRT in our spiffy uniforms promptly at 12pm (or at least, I was there at 11:20, Yihan and Kanghao were punctual at 11:55, and Tong forgot the blazers so he had to go all the way back home. Ohhh, Tong).

We bummed around in Delifrance where I found out that the delectable clam chowder actually had clams in it, yes, no kidding! Generally I hate the squishy "tangy" (read: abominable) flavour of the little buggers, but the soup was digestible. Well we were there, just generally bumming around and eating - except for Yihan, who, after having swallowed down her vegetarian pizza (with cheese, which we conveniently assumed was synthetic, processed, and ultimately vegetarian cheese) was very calmly proceeding to panic.

Listening to her rattle her speech off over and over again was unnerving. Even more unnerving, though, was looking at Tong's macho assertion that he had the speech pat down, really! Xuyao slumped in a chair and read a novel, blissfully oblivious to our pains, and Kang...well Kang didn't have to do much rehearsing, we trusted him to do his job. How can we not, after Yi and I most soundly agree that he is good husband material.

NEXT.
